MARPLES FAMILY HISTORY
A personal odyssey in search of my roots
Welcome to my web site! I'm Rodney Marples and I've been
researching my ancestry for nearly 40 years. The oldest ancestor I can identify
with reasonable certainty is one George Marpple, who
must have been born around 1565 as his eldest son was baptised
in 1591. George and his family lived in Baslow, a
typical Derbyshire village on the edge of the Peak District, about 10 miles or
so from
George was an agricultural labourer and
died in Baslow in 1640. Three of his surviving sons
themselves had families and from them I have traced thousands of descendants
and there are now over 29,000 people in my granddaughter’s family tree
(including spouses). I find that I've got cousins in
Here's my wife, Jean, and me, with our younger son Robert and our
daughter Kathryn at our side, together with our elder son Roy, with his wife

the latest sprigs of the tree - my granddaughter Robyn Alice Marples, born 3rd
February 2008, and my grandson Theo Ray Marples, born 3rd April
2010!
In the process of researching my roots I found it easier to trace
backwards all the Marples names I came across. As a result, I have lots of
other substantial Marples family trees with thousands of names. So if you're
researching your Marples ancestry it's probable I've got something of interest
for you. It's also quite possible that we're related.
